Howto setup a Mailserver using Postfix, MySQL, Dovecot, Postfixadmin, Amavis-new

PostfixThis is is the process I used to setup a mailserver on a Ubuntu 10.04 Server for handling email for multiple email addresses and domains and integrated with Spam and Virus scanners.   The instructions presume you have the Ubuntu 10.04 server installed.

This will install Postfix as the SMTP Server, Dovecot as the IMAP/POP Server, PostfixAdmin to manage email domains and accounts, Mysql for the database, Amavis-new for managing Viruses and Spam, RoundCube for a Web access to a mailbox.

Moodle integration at Wellpark College

Wellpark LogoIntegrated of Moodle into the Wellpark College distant leaning programme and assisted in the development of distant learning modules for several of the college faculties. Moodle is an Open Source course management system designed to help educators who want to create quality online courses. The software is used all over the world by universities, schools, companies and independent teachers. Moodle is open source and completely free to use. As part of the installation and maintenance program we developed courses, trained educators and helped to set up processes and documentation to ensure the seamless functionality of the project.

InternetNZ Integration of Open Source Services

InternetNZ LogoInternetNZ established its Internet servers in 2000, contracting Serion Solutions to integrate Open Source Solutions into their systems. They started with a simple system using a Postfix SMTP server with IMAP email and an Apache webserver. However over the years their requirements evolved, going through a period where they used SUSE OpenExchange groupware server and then later migrated back to Open Source software. Today InternetNZ run a dozen servers running a mixture of several version of Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) which provide all there server needs for their office intranet and Internet content. In the office Windows and Mac clients are used by the staff.

Integrating Suse OpenExchange Groupware Server

SLOG ImageInstalled and integrated SuSE Openexchange Server into a the Internet Society in Wellington. The Openexchange Server combines SuSE's Linux Enterprise Server operating system with an e-mail server and groupware functionality to form a communications and groupware solution. SuSE Linux Openexchange Server is poised to battle Microsoft Exchange by integrating with the vendor's popular Outlook client. Openexchange Server combines the best of all worlds: proven open source components; comprehensive software applications that offer reliable e-mail functions for the reception, distribution, and dispatch of e-mail; integrated Web mail clients; and smart, central appointment and address management, and efficient project management and task planning tools to streamline enterprise operations. A centrally controlled document management tool and group-based discussion forums to enhance the efficiency of project teams are also available.

DTS Logo Contracted to set up the technical info-structure when DTS Limited first set up its operation in Wellington and Auckland New Zealand. DTS is a business-focused broadband provider committed to bringing its customers the best possible online experience. They are dedicated to customer satisfaction and have served New Zealand companies and organisations since 2003.

APTLD server migration and management

APTLD LogoThe InternetNZ took over the management of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) in the early 2000s and contacted Serion Solutions to migrate the mail, mailing lists and webservers to its servers. We continued to maintain these services until they were transfer out of New Zealand in 2009. During this time the Webserver was completely revamped by InternetNZ and the APTLD commissioner. The mailing lists were transfered to Mailman, an Open Sources mail expander. The SMTP server was Postfix which was integrated with Spamassassin and Death2Spam to manage spam and ClamAV to manages SPAM.
